  Descrizione : Fabian Robin, London;The (restored) case surmounted by an elaborate repousse brass basket with floral medallions and swags framed by four cast finials over a moulded edge, each glazed side aperture set with a repousse mask on a red silk background to a moulded base on bun feet, the 7 inch square brass dial with winged cherub head spandrels framing the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with half-quarter marks and meeting arrow-head half hour markers, signed F. Robin, London between VII and V, and strike/silent lever above XII, the finely matted centre with ringed winding squares and a decorated chamfered date aperture, the movement with twin gut (now wire) fusees - the going side with short verge pendulum mounted on a knife edge, the strike with rack strike on a bell and repeating the quarters on a run of three bells and hammers, the backplate signed 'Fabin Robin, London' within a pattern of foliate scrolls (one pair of engraved scrolls transforming into a dogs/dragons heads) within a wheatear border. The carcass, movement and dial late 17th/early 18th century. The veneers possibly later? 46cms (18ins) high.

There are some slight scuffs to the case but overall the engine-turning is in good condition.

White enamel ring with radial Roman numerals and outer minute/seconds divisions, inner and outer ormolu frame with beaded patterns. Gilt brass arrow hands, blued steel equation solar hand with gilt sun at its tail, skeletonized center set with equation and motion trains. Below spoked silvered annual calendar wheel with blued steel arrow hand and equation cam below. M. Inverted Y-shaped gilt brass frame with four knurled level adjusting knobs, going barrel, three-wheel Robin-type remontoire train winding endless rope having a weight and counterweight for driving the wheel which drives the escape wheel, pin wheel escapement, spring suspension set in a bracket mounted togridiron compensating frame of four steel and four brass rods, steel rod, brass bob, beat adjustment by small knurled knob set with eccentric pin on the crutch, Dauthiau-type equation mechanism.Dim. 42 cm., width 19 cm.
