The story of the brand began in 1984 with the creation of Marc Jacobs International by Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy, around two guiding principles: a love of fashion and a desire for quality. The brand’s collection was presented for the first time in 1986 and was awarded the best designer prize by the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America).
The first Marc Jacobs shop opened its doors in New York in 1997.
The Marc by Marc Jacobs label was presented by the designer at his spring show in 2001. It was a fashionable, but more affordable line of clothing.
After his first grunge themed catwalk show, then the oversize collection, retro themes were found in nearly all his collections. In addition to textiles and leather goods, the brand also produces eyewear, jewellery and perfume.
Marc Jacobs is one of today’s most sought after designers. He has been awarded seven CFDA prizes and continues to wow his audiences. His New York fans call themselves the Marcolettes!
