Cartier Tank Française Watches

In 1919, the Parisian designer, Louis Cartier took inspiration from the Renault tanks used during the First World War and produced one of the landmark designs of this mythical brand: the famous Tank watch.

Cartier signed exclusive contracts with the most prestigious watch makers to create watches that have become iconic, some of which are still in production. This is the case with the famous Tank watch which was sold in 1919 in honour of the Allies’ tanks.

It has undergone many variations since its launch and has appeared in several collections: the Tank Française, the Tank Américaine, the Tank Louis Cartier, the Tank Chinoise and the Tank Divan.

The more recent Tank Française first appeared in 1996.

THE CARTIER TANK, THE WATCH WITH MANY FACES

      The models of Tank watch

Since its launch, the Tank has undergone many changes and has been available in several collections: the Tank française watch, the Tank américaine and the slightly elongated Tank cintrée, the Tank Louis Cartier with rounded edges, the Tank Chinoise watch as well as the Tank Divan, and the latest addition, the Tank Anglaise.

The special features of the Cartier Tank

A legendary watch, its characteristics are the same as they have been since its launch: rail-track type chapter ring, Roman numerals, sword-shaped blued steel hands and sapphire crown.

THE LOUIS CARTIER TANK, A TIMELESS MODEL

The Louis Cartier Tank or L.C. is what can be called a timeless classic and, considering its price (+30% in 10 years!), a sound investment.

Louis Cartier and numerous well-known figures, such as Alain Delon made no mistake, proudly wearing the model, which came out in 1922. Its pure rectangular form with perpendicular sides, and very refined rounded edge and top of the lug, represents with extraordinary efficacy a conquest of the Art Deco aesthetic. It was in 1973 that the Louis Cartier came back into intense production and this time in two versions: mechanical and automatic. Nowadays it is worn by both women and men.
