Panerai Luminor base Watches

In 1949, a patent was granted to Panerai for “Luminor”, a luminous tritium based compound that was used in designing watches for the Italian army. Thanks to this process, the numbers on the dial are easy to read even in the darkest depths of the ocean. This compound also gives its name to the “Luminor” model, one of the iconic watches of Officine Panerai.

“Luminor” models successfully introduced an entirely new aesthetic to the world of watchmaking, bringing in a fashion for oversized cases inspired by the diving watches from the brand’s early years.

In 2006, a new edition of the “Luminor 1950” took the design to another level.
