It impresses with its rare and sought after honeycomb dial, its lightning flash second hand and bezel. To further enhance the rarity of the present example, the watch is accompanied by paperwork from Rolex USA dated July 16 and August 4, 2008. In 2008, the watch was serviced by Rolex USA and following the servicing a Rolex SVP for Technical Operations sent a letter to the owner stating that upon inspection the watch, bezel, dial, hands and movement were all original Rolex manufacture. The letter further states the watch was manufactured on September 8th, 1958. It is extremely rare for Rolex to issue a letter from a senior executive identifying the date of manufacture and certifying the complete originality of a vintage Rolex watch. This is rarely done and only to accommodate special requests from important collectors personally known to the company..Milgauss Ref. 6541.The Milgauss model reference 6541 with black revolving bezel was introduced to the market in the mid-1950s. It was designed for use in areas of high electro-magnetic radiation, such as research labs or power stations. The influence of radiation on the balance work results in losing accuracy. These effects can be reduced by using the principles of a Faraday Cage, e.g. by placing the movement in an iron inner case shielding the movement. Due to a lack of popularity, reference 6541 was only produced during four years and was then replaced by reference 1019, featuring a blank bezel, straight sweep seconds hand and a caliber 1580 movement. The Milgauss ceased production altogether in 1988, taking almost a decade off before coming back to life in 2007 in the guise of the Ref. 116400. There is spotting to the honeycomb dial and the luminescent dots are discoloured. The bezel does not rotate easily. There are scuffs to the case back and the knurling has some damage.
